Everyone undoubtedly needs their space, and our distant relatives who share our evolutionary tree at some point are no different in this regard.
'Caged' is an exploration into what I would interpret the feelings of these caged animals as. what they would feel, being confined to the same 4 walls, unable to fly and course out into unbound realms, to never be able to truly explore nature.
Though this set has been taken from the Zoological Park at Parassinikkadavu, let not the viewer think that I have ANY personal angst against the park in particular. I have no doubts regarding the care given to these animals in the park: I'm sure the officials are taking all efforts day and night to keep the animals happy, as is evidenced in the King Cobra enclosure (not depicted here), which is literally, 'Fit for a king'. My opposition is ONLY to the practice of caging as a whole and not to the Park as such.
I in fact thank the officials of the park for allowing me to explore my creative abilities through this series.
